Sodium Carbonate is an odourless, white powder. It is the disodium salt of carbonic acid and when dissolved in water forms carbonic acid and sodium hydroxide.

Alkaline in pH and with the main element of Sodium, Sodium Carbonate is commonly referred to as washing soda or soda ash and is used primarily in the manufacturing of glass. Sodium Carbonate is also used in the processing of wood pulp to create paper, to manufacture soaps and detergents and is a well-known chemical used for water softening applications.

It is also used in the food and beverage, textile industry and to adjust the pH/buffer properties in wastewater treatment by increasing the alkalinity.
